Drainage · Grading · Erosion

Fix where the water goes—not just where it shows up.

Standing water, washed-out soil and runoff against a home are symptoms of how water moves across the property. We look at grade, collection, conveyance, discharge and erosion before defining the scope.

Start upstream

The wet spot is not always the source.

We trace where runoff enters, where it concentrates, what the existing grade is doing and where water can be safely discharged. Depending on the property, the solution may involve grading, surface collection, French drains, solid-pipe conveyance, channel work, rock stabilization or a combination.

01Map the source and path of runoff.
02Protect foundations, drives, yards and finished landscaping.
03Create a controlled route to an appropriate discharge point.
04Stabilize areas where concentrated flow is removing soil.
Common scopes

Property-specific solutions, not a one-product pitch.

Grading

Reshape problem areas to establish positive, controlled surface flow.

French Drains

Intercept subsurface or persistent water where conditions support that approach.

Collection + Pipe

Capture concentrated water and convey it to a defined outlet.

Erosion Control

Fabric, stone and channel stabilization where runoff velocity is removing soil.

Best thing to send us

A rain-event video tells a story dry photos cannot.

Start by sending the location and a description through our project form. During follow-up, we can arrange a private way to share photos or video you already have. Do not enter moving water or unsafe areas to take pictures.

Site-specific by nature

Recommendations depend on observed conditions. Some properties may require engineering, survey information or other specialty input before a responsible final solution can be defined.

Drainage work across the metro

The property shapes the scope.

Two Wunder project scopes show how the work changes with the source of the water, the existing grade and the route to the outlet.

Fultondale · Foundation drainage

Connect the grading, trench and roof-water plan.

The scope addressed the front and side of a home where the ground sloped toward the foundation. It brought together perimeter excavation, a drain line with gravel and separation fabric, selected downspout connections, and regrading of the affected areas.

Access, existing sidewalk sections and the outlet location were part of the planning. The drainage scope was defined separately from structural foundation repairs and interior restoration.

Bessemer · Channel stabilization

Work with an existing drainage path.

This scope centered on approximately 29 linear feet of an existing erosion channel. It called for minor hand preparation, securely anchored reinforcement matting, and localized stone protection at the entrance and outlet.

The existing channel contour was retained in the scope, with attention to the transitions where concentrated runoff entered and left the treated area.

A closer look at erosion control.
